Shangrila Rendon, 39, sets her 2nd Guinness World Record for most Ironman-distance Triathlons completed by a woman within a year. She completed the 23 of them in 34 days while raising money for charity to empower and support women, children and individuals with PTSD. 10 of the race distances were run in consecutive days.
Long Beach, CA (PRUnderground) December 7th, 2020
From October 30th to December 2nd, 2020 Rendon swam 55.2 miles, cycled 2,576 miles and ran 603.06 miles in Long Beach, California.
Out of the 23 full Ironman-distance triathlons, 10 of them were completed consecutively. 9 of them (15th – 23rd triathlons) were completed under 14 hours.
The best time of 13 hours, 10 mins and 31 seconds was completed on her 20th full-Ironman distance race on November 25th.
With this achievement, she broke another Guinness World Record (her 2nd) for most Ironman-distance Triathlons completed by a woman within a year. She did this while raising money for charity to empower and support women, children and individuals with PTSD under the Beyond Myself Project.
Beyond Myself Project consisted of about 150 volunteers and functional teams who were moved and dedicated to not only help set the Guinness World Record, but also to uplift and inspire those who are in need. The project raised funds for 4 nonprofit organizations: the Downtown Women’s Center, the Children’s Institute, Paws 4 Success (which helps individuals with PTSD), and SJVRC – One Mile for One Child (which helps abused children in the Philippines and underprivileged children in Vietnam).
Those who are still struggling used the project as a vehicle to start or continue their recovery and healing efforts by participating, volunteering and connecting to organizations that can help them. Shangrila’s dedication, actions and message have given hope and inspiration to many.
Shangrila says: “From being abused for 14 years as a child, struggling with PTSD, depression, alcohol addiction and eating disorder for over 20 years to turning my life around, becoming an athlete, international endurance race champion, best selling author, Guinness World record holder, motivational speaker and professional triathlon coach.
I’ve committed my life’s purpose to have a voice and be able to tell my story that would give hope to those who are still struggling like I did in the past. To show that no matter how horrible our past was and how hard and often we hit rock bottom, we can still turn things into positive and make our dreams come true.
Helping others who have experienced abuse and trauma is very close to my heart. I don’t want to have another individual go through what I had experienced. I want to make a difference as much as I can.
I feel very blessed and thankful for all the support and help we were able to give to others together during the project. We made a difference.”

About Shangrila Rendon
Shangrila Rendon is a pro-Ultra Triathlete and 2x Guinness World Record Holder (2015) as the Fastest Female to complete 5 Ironman in 5 consecutive days, (consisting of 12 mi swim, 560 mi bike, 131 mi run) and (2020) for the most Ironman-distance Triathlons completed by a woman within a year.
From walking for an hour every day to and from her first job in the U.S. at age 17, and spending 15 minutes on a treadmill before work at 19 years old, having no athletic background whatsoever, Shangrila Rendon transformed herself into a world-class athlete. She did not have a bike, was afraid of water and did not know how to swim until the age of 29.
Her journey may have started slow as she was juggling being a medical device engineer full-time and completing a Master’s degree at the same time. However, she was fueled by guts and driven by pure determination to leave behind her horrible past.
She has been thru some dark times – abuse, eating disorder, PTSD, severe depression and alcoholism.
Coach Shangrila has been featured in NBC News, Triathlete Magazine, The New York Times, Fox28 News, Fox 6 News, Outside Magazine, Endurance Sports & Fitness Magazine, KTFS News Radio, Hungry 4 Hope Toxic Radio, RT News and GMA 7’s news.
Besides being an athlete, she is also a full time endurance and triathlon performance coach, who loves helping athletes around the world in achieving their utmost potential and biggest dreams in sports. She is also a best-selling author, motivational speaker and podcaster
