Pools in Los Angeles County will be down to lap swim only through Dec. 21, after the county began a semi-stay-at-home order.

The order began on Monday and limits pools to lap swim with a one-per-lane capacity in public pools. Private and single-household pools are exempt from the order.

The county has reported more than 395,000 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began, with more than 7,600 deaths, according to ABC7. Pools across the country have been affected in different ways based on local COVID-19 numbers and local and state ordinances.

The Los Angeles County order came with a warning from Los Angeles County public health director Dr. Barbara Ferrer, who said further restrictions could follow if things don’t get better.

“If this doesn’t work and two to three weeks from now we find ourselves in a worse place than we are, we’re going to have to go back and look at what else do we have as options,” Ferrer told ABC7.

If numbers decline, pools will open again fully on Dec. 21 as outlined in the plan.
