Rethink the Pulling Ankle Strap

Most coaches are familiar with the frustration of talking through the technique of Breaststroke kick, only to watch the swimmer do a scissor kick time and time again. The fact is, teaching swimmers to maintain a legal, symmetrical Breaststroke kick requires far more than verbal cues. Instructing a proper Breaststroke kick usually means getting into the water and physically guiding the swimmer’s feet and legs through the proper motion. This is certainly a valuable exercise, but one that is far too time-intensive for a coach with more than 4-5 swimmers in the water. Try using the Pulling Ankle Strap in a Breaststroke set to ensure the Breaststroke kick stays symmetrical and narrow. Place the Pulling Ankle Strap above the knees and ease into the exercise with a few 25 kicks. Once the swimmers feel comfortable, launch into a longer Breaststroke set that requires swimmers to maintain the proper kick for 10-15 minutes. Using the Pulling Ankle Strap for Breaststroke is an innovative way to teach new swimmers proper technique and reinforce positive habits in experienced, competitive swimmers.
