Shayna Jack is a four-time Commonwealth Games medallist who made her first break for the Australian Swimming team at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships. Shayna races in freestyle events and has experienced individual success as well as success as a member of the Australian relay teams.
Shayna has faced several challenges throughout her career – the toughest was in 2019 when she tested positive for a banned substance at the World Aquatics Championships. Following a lengthy legal battle, Shayna’s case was eventually dismissed, and she has always maintained her innocence of not intentionally using the substance.
After an incredible comeback to the Australian swim team after a few months of training, Shayna had, without a doubt, secured her position for the World Championships and Commonwealth Games Teams.
To further challenge her comeback, Shayna suffered a freak injury during the 2022 World Aquatics Championships breaking her hand. Showing determination and resilience, Shayna made her individual return to international competition after three years at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. She won gold in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay, silver in the women’s 100m freestyle, and bronze in the women’s 50m freestyle.
Shayna previously competed at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games as a member of the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay, with the team securing gold and a World Record time. Shayna has had success at several other competitions, including gold in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay at the 2018 Tokyo Pan Pacific Championships, gold in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay and silver in the mixed 4x100m medley relay at the 2022 FINA World Championships; alongside numerous medals at the 2019 and 2022 Australian National Championships.
